The average recreational dose for psilocybin mushrooms can range from 0.5g-3g. Doses within this range can induce vivid psychological effects that include vibrant colors, synesthesia, visual
distortion, auditory and visual hallucinations, physical dissociation (out of body experience), and others depending on several individual factors such as height/weight, physical blockages, overall health/diet and tolerance levels. A MICROdose will only have only a fraction of a recreational dose. Depending upon the factors listed above, microdoses can range from 0.1g-0.4g (or 100mg-400mg). Finding the right dose and schedule can be challenging in the beginning and requires mindful awareness. It is recommended to start at the lowest dose and add as you go if necessary. The key to finding the right individual dose is that microdosing should not cause psychedelic effects. If there is an overstimulation involving visions, high sense of euphoria, or impairment, the dose is likely too high and it is best to lower the dose on the next scheduled day. Your day to day activities should not become difficult to achieve. Benefits of Microdosing Within the last few years, there have been more and more studies on the effects of consuming sub-hallucinogenic doses of psychedelic substances. Most studies involve ‘placebo-controlled’ groups to determine safety and efficacy, while measuring Cognitive and Neurological function.
Common benefits reported include:
● Reduced symptoms of Anxiety
● Reduced symptoms of Depression
● Reduced Stress
● Overall enhanced mood
● Improved Memory Retention
● Enhanced creativity
● Cognitive clarity/clearing of brain fog
● Reduced Symptoms of PTSD
Establishing a Schedule
A microdose schedule will vary from person to person. According to Paul Stamet and his “Stamets Stack,” Stamet recommends 5 days on, and 3 days off. So what does that mean? That means that you would take the appropriate dose for five days in a row, and then NOT take it for the next three days. On the 9th day, you would resume taking the dose for five days straight and then stop taking it for the three days following that and so on. One of the main reasons for taking days off is to allow your brain to open up and awaken those neurological pathways that have been put to sleep as a result of our fast-paced, repetitive and hectic day to day lifestyle.
Another important reason for rest days is to prevent tolerance. Building a healthy and respectful relationship with psilocybin, or any sacred sacrament, is very much encouraged. Stamets Stack
is a recommendation, but not an absolute must for a schedule. Beginners can choose to microdose 3 days on and 3 days off if they see fit to their personal lifestyle. Every Body is different. The best practice for establishing a schedule should be listening to your own intuition, mind and body.
